Maya has recently started ballet classes and is more than excited!
This is the first time Maya is doing something without her big sister, Olivia. For a couple of years now Maya has patiently observed Olivia attend her ballet classes and couldn’t wait until it was her turn to start (the minimum age requirement is 3 years).
A week ago she attended her first class along with a handful of other young ballerinas. Behind a closed door, alone with her peers and two teachers they practiced for 30 minutes. Marta, Oliva, Jackson and I would peek through the window from time to time and could only see the world’s largest smile on her face.
After class finished she promptly asked when her next class will take place; 7 days was the answer. So the countdown began and each day her excitement grew.
Today, aka day #7, she was thrilled beyond words. All good right? Well, a few hours before the class was scheduled to begin the phone rings: class canceled this week. Now, how do you explain that to this charming little girl? I don’t know how, but Marta managed to explain it to the very disappointed Maya (I’m still amazed). And with that Maya has started the new countdown… because class was “candeled” (her pronunciation of cancelled).
Once I got home I told Maya that we should still do something ballet related, perhaps practise some of the new routines introduced in the first class. She promptly responded it would be a great idea. I asked if we can take pictures of the different ballet positions and as you might have guessed – she agreed (our kids are not very camera shy …. perhaps something to do with the fact they have been raised in front of one).
Here are few pictures of our Maya; our 3 year old ballerina:
